In December 2016 we took our first long trip in the RV to California and back. This was the true shake-out cruise. We discovered all the leaks, electrical, and plumbing problems that our RV had. We saw some very interesting sites. We drove on very dangerous roads without realizing it until we were done, thank the goddess. At the end of the trip we had some memories, some new repairs to be done and realized we could live in a 24 foot RV without killing each other.

The Oregon Coast-Jesse Honeyman State Park

December 17-18,2016

Jesse M. Honeyman State Memorial Park is one of the jewels of the Oregon Coastline. The trail is rugged and the hike down to the beach is very rugged but the beauty is well worth it. Make sure you take your camera. There are ample opportunities to immerse yourself in the beauty of the greenery and geology. It was wet and cold but that doesn’t stop an Oregonian.

The Oregon Coast-Harris Beach State Park

The Happy Campers

It’s hard to continue to come up with so many adjectives of amazing beauty for the Oregon Coast. The park was lovely albeit drippy.

This was a short video I took of the surf in Harris Beach.

The moon was shining through the clouds illuminating the sea as if it was daytime. I was “moonstruck” when I saw this photo.

Clear Lake, Ca Edgewater Resort

December 22-23,2016

Odd little place. Very rustic. It felt like a throw back to the 1960’s when kids were sent to camp for the summer. The nearby restaurants were all closed. The ducks were our favorite part of this resort.

Sky Valley RV Resort

We hope to never do another trip like this again. I underestimated the amount of time and effort it would take to get from San Jose to the Coachella Valley area. We took several wrong turns getting through the L.A. Basin. By the time we got there it was the middle of the night. We had no idea where we were. We were simply following the GPS, which did not fail us. This RV resort is way out in the middle of nowhere. This place is so far out that the Enterprise Car Rental in Palm Desert refused to come and pick me up. I called another Enterprise near the Palm Springs airport and they came and picked me up. There are no buses. If you don’t have a tow car you could well be stranded with no ability to get groceries or medical supplies if needed.

The facilities were in poor repair. The management/ownership is more interested in building new tiny houses to rent. The onsite restaurant was closed because of a bad inspection (you can take that where you need to go).

Forget wifi, even in their facilities there is no wifi available.

Also, they do not keep all the pools in repair. I am very sensitive to the sun and all the pool options under cover were broken.

The classes they advertise online are not available until “the season” starts. No where on the website was that mentioned. They told me I could drive down to another resort 4 miles away to take classes.

This was not the kind of vacation I had hoped to have. I would not recommend this place.

Thousand Palms Oasis-Coachella Reserve

This was one of those wonders on the planet that you just scratch your head and go “dang”. There was a magic about this place. I felt like I had entered a prehistoric world and any minute some odd dinosaur from the Triassic era would pop out from behind one of the trees. These palm trees were immense. If you’ve got kids and your in the Coachella Valley take them to this incredible spot. The pictures do not do them justice. The visit is definitely worth the trip. Take your mosquito spray.
